The dispute kicked off last month when Kanye’s lawyer sent a letter to Tidal claiming the company owed him over $3 million in performance bonuses for his The Life of Pablo album and was in breach of contract. Lawyers for both sides tried to resolve the conflict but failed. Two weeks ago Kanye’s lawyer fired off a second letter declaring that the contract was over.
Tidal lawyers then responded by threatening to hit ‘Ye with a breach of contract right back
According to Billboard, the relationship is now officially over.
“A source close to Kanye West has confirmed that Tidal’s exclusivity rights have been terminated based on what is alleged to be Tidal’s failure to honor its financial obligations,” the industry magazine reported this afternoon.
Other sources have said the souring business relationship between Hov and ‘Ye was not the reason JAY went after Kanye on his new album 4:44.
Instead, they say the cause of Hov’s anger is entirely Kanye’s notorious Sacramento rant, in which ‘Ye bizarrely called out Jay, Beyonce, and their “killers”.
Nevertheless, it looks like the former throne co-inhabitants now have more things to be pissed at each other over.
